we have learned to seek the noise

Mia: Don’t you hate that?

Vincent: What?

Mia: Uncomfortable silences. Why do we feel it’s necessary to yak about bulls*it in order to be comfortable?

Vincent: I don’t know. That’s a good question.

Mia: That’s when you know you’ve found somebody special. When you can just shut up for a minute and comfortably enjoy the silence.

–from the movie, Pulp Fiction

this is what i worry about when i’m with people. you see, not everyone can understand the fact that i can live being silent and just be content with my thoughts.

so why the need to break the silence?

maybe it’s because majority of the population aren’t comfortable with it, but i can’t help it, i’ve grown accustomed to embrace silence. nonetheless, i do try to start conversations when i sense that i’ve been too silent far too long. but it’s not enough, because people will want noise at some point; when they’re not content with me as company, for example, they usually turn to their music and put on their headphones. another more classic example is when they take a stab at conjuring small talk when in the end, it’s just going to make them uneasy all the more.

hi, am i boring you?
i’m sorry if you feel that way, but this is who i am.
